I’ve just returned from an incredible trip to the Maasai Mara, still buzzing with excitement as I relive every moment of the adventure. And what’s the best cure for the post-safari blues? Heading back on another adventure, of course! So, next week, we’re heading off on a special family trip that I’ve actually been planning for over a year. Normally, my travel plans come together last minute, but not this one. This time, I’m organized and ready! It’s going to be a very special occasion for all of us, especially my dad, who thinks it’s a birthday surprise—little does he know, he’ll also be the unpaid nanny!
I’m beyond excited for a few reasons. First, it’s the kids’ very first safari, which I’m sure will be an experience they’ll never forget (hopefully in a good way). I also can’t wait to visit the brand-new Wild Hill property, which looks absolutely stunning. And of course, I’ll be returning to one of the world’s top properties, Arijiju. To top it off, we’ll be embarking on gorilla trekking (twice!) for my dad’s 70th birthday—a true bucket-list adventure.
We’re staying at three exclusive-use properties: Wild Hill, Arijiju, and Singita Kataza House. I’ve even arranged for a day room at The Retreat in Kigali as our flight home is at a crazy 11:30 pm! Who could expect to keep the kids awake that long? At Kataza House, I’ll also be checking out the newly opened Bisate Reserve, which has received rave reviews. These aren’t just your typical magazine blurbs—these are recommendations from trusted travel journalists. I can’t wait to compare Bisate to Singita Kwitonda and see which property really stands out. The rivalry between Wilderness and Singita is heating up, and I’m all for it!
As always, I’ll be reviewing everything with my usual honesty—maybe even sharing a few thoughts on what it’s like to take young children on safari. I’m sure I’ll have some stories to tell, possibly with a few regrets along the way!
